Winter alert types
- Snowfall
- Heavy snow is expected
- Winter storm
- Several hazards at once: heavy snow, freezing rain, strong wind
- Blizzard
- Blowing snow cuts visibility to 400 m or less
- Freezing rain
- Rain that glazes roads, trees and power lines
- Snow squall
- Intense, very local bursts of snow
- Extreme cold
- Dangerous cold or wind chill for the region
