Cookies & local storage

North Weather uses a handful of small first-party cookies and browser storage entries to remember your choices. None of them are used for advertising, analytics or tracking you on other sites.

What we store on your device

wr_locCookieRemembers the place found with the location button, so the home page opens on your forecastOnly after you use the location button1 year

wl-themeLocal storageRemembers light or dark mode; never sent to our serverOnly when you use the theme buttonUntil you clear it
nw_recentLocal storageRemembers the last five places you opened, shown as "Recent locations" in the search box; never sent to our serverWhen you open a place pageUntil you clear it
wr_geoSession storageKeeps the approximate city shown in the header for this browsing session, so it is not looked up on every pageOn your first page viewWhen you close the tab or browser

Third parties

We do not place third-party cookies. Map tiles and some images come from other servers (Esri, OpenWeatherMap, NASA GIBS, NOAA); those requests include your IP address like any web request. See the privacy policy for details.

How to control them

You can delete cookies and site data at any time in your browser settings, and clear your recent places with the Clear link in the search box. The site keeps working: it simply opens on Toronto — or your approximate city — in °C and the light theme until you choose again.

If we ever add analytics or advertising cookies, this page will be updated first and you will be asked for consent where the law requires it.
