How to read this page
Storm positions, intensity and the outlook graphics come from the U.S. National Hurricane Center and refresh here every 15 minutes. Categories follow the Saffir-Simpson scale: a hurricane has sustained winds of 119 km/h or more, and Category 3 — 178 km/h and up — marks a major hurricane. In Canada, watches and warnings come from the Canadian Hurricane Centre: a watch means tropical storm or hurricane conditions are possible within 36 hours; a warning means they are expected within 24 hours. Storms often lose their tropical structure by the time they reach Atlantic Canada, but post-tropical storms can still bring damaging wind, heavy rain and storm surge — follow Environment Canada alerts for your area, and if local officials call for evacuation, go early.
